I picked up employees who
wouldn't drive during the snowstorm of 1986, and drug them in to
work. I went through the nightmare of an employee who embezzled from me
in 1989, and then blamed it on a new drug called Prozac. I fired an employee in 1990 who looked just like Aunt Bea on the
Andy Griffith Show, and watched her cry like a baby while I tried to
keep my composure. (I loved working with her personally, but she
just couldn't handle the job and had to go. Hardest thing I've ever
done). In 1991, I bought out the silent partner in my business who
wasn't being so silent about how to manage our employees (which is
why they say "The only ship that won't sail is a partnership"). In 1994, I busted one of my sales reps for selling Amway on my
time, and even using my company's business cards to sell his soap. I could go on and on, but you get the picture. Second,
I've been personally mentored by the highest level executives in the
world. I have people on my speed dial who run many of the
multi-billion dollar corporations you see all around you, some with
over 100,000 employees. Third, from the time I was a college freshman in 1981, I've
studied what made great leaders such as Winston Churchill, Ronald
Reagan, and Franklin D. Roosevelt so great...why people followed
them...what they did differently...and how to reproduce their highly
charismatic personas. I've studied the greatest management minds who preceded us, such
as Peter Drucker and W. Edwards Deming. I've studied the living
legends in management such as Lee Iacocca and Jack Welch, and
closely follow modern day management marvels such as Steve Jobs, Michael
Dell, and Bill Gates. I've obsessed over what makes them so successful, and taken it to ridiculous
extremes. I've learned from the best and observed the worst.

seen more and forgotten more than most management gurus will ever
learn. And I KNOW, without a shadow of doubt that I have the world's
