Glenn's Bio (Short Version)

Glenn Shepard lives in Nashville, Tennessee, where he has owned his own business for 27 years, and has been in management for 30 years. He is the best-selling author of six books on management, 13 DVD programs, and 641 published articles. His seminar is now the #1 rated management and front-line supervisory training in America.

Glenn's Bio (Medium Version)

After earning a degree in management from Georgia Tech in Atlanta in 1985, Glenn took a job with Cincinnati based Cintas Corporation because of their highly regarded management training program.

In 1988, he purchased a small spinoff of Nashville based Data Marketing Network. In 1989, he expanded operations into Memphis, brought in a venture capitalist, and then expanded into Birmingham, Cincinnati, Knoxville, Indianapolis and Chattanooga.

He continued running his business by day while honing his speaking skills at night. He held his first seminar at the Nashville Convention Center in 1991, and in 1992 the University of Toledo became the first university to host his seminar. By 1995, he had become so in demand on the speaking circuit that it took five employees to keep him on the road.

After self-publishing his first three books, in 2005 he was signed by
John Wiley & Sons in New York City.
Wiley is a 200 year old giant in the publishing industry. In the 1800's, they published such literary legends as Edgar Allen Poe, Herman Melville, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hans Christian Andersen, and Charles Dickens.

Today, they're the world's largest publisher of medical, scientific, academic, and business books. They have also published 490 authors that are
Nobel Laureates, in every Nobel prize category (Literature, Economics, Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, and Peace).

They also own the
For Dummies
series, J.K. Lasser tax and financial guides, Webster's New World™ dictionaries, CliffsNotes™ study guides, Frommer's™ travel guides, and Betty Crocker® and Weight Watchers® cookbooks.

Wiley published Glenn’s fourth book (How to Manage Problem Employees), fifth book (How to Make Performance Evaluations Really Work), and sixth book (How to Be the Employee Your Company Can't Live Without), which became his first #1 Best Seller in 2006. He is also published in
Japan, Russia, China, France, Germany, England, Mexico, South Korea, Switzerland, India, and Canada.

His webinars have been hosted by Thompson Interactive in Washington, D.C., The Institute of Management and Administration in New York, Business 21 Publications in Philadelphia, The Alexander Hamilton Institute in New Jersey, and Dartnell Corporation/Audio Solutions in Research Triangle, NC.

His seminars have been hosed by nearly 400 colleges and chambers of commerce, and are now the #1 rated management and front-line supervisory training in America.

Glenn's Bio (Long Version)

Glenn credits much of his success to having been taught a “Blue Collar Work Ethic” at an early age. He learned this from three men: His great grandfather, who was a farmer, his grandfather, who was a mechanic, and his father, who owned a body shop in a small town in South Georgia. He often jokes that his family might have forgiven him if he’d become a bank robber or a communist, but the unpardonable sin in his family was being lazy.

Starting when he was nine years old, Glenn would go out with his father on wrecker calls at all hours of the night on weekends and any other non-school nights. By the time he was 16, he was driving his father’s tow trucks and making wrecker calls on his own. Working in his father’s body shop, he learned to tear apart cars and rebuild them before he was old enough to drive.

When business got slow at the body shop, Glenn found what was his dream job at age 16 – working in the electronics department of a local K-Mart. Everything was perfect until his manager asked him to do something that absolutely terrified him – a Blue Light Special.

He was so nervous that he dropped the microphone and someone else had to finish it for him. The next time, he was supposed to mark a toaster oven down by $5 but got so tongue tied that he marked it up by $5. When his boss asked him to do another the next week, he was humiliated and begged not to. But his boss saw something in Glenn that he didn’t see in himself, and encouraged him to at least try.

He did, and this time it went so well that he was soon doing blue light specials for every other department. He didn’t know it at the time, but it was there that his love affair with a microphone began – a love affair that would later shape his career in a way he could have never imagined back then.

Glenn stayed at K-Mart for nearly two years, until he left for college. He didn’t know it at the time, but this was another life lesson that would serve him well through his career – Don’t be a job hopper.

After earning a degree in management from Georgia Tech in Atlanta in 1985, Glenn took a job with Cincinnati based Cintas Corporation because of their highly regarded management training program. In 1988, he purchased a small spinoff of Nashville based Data Marketing Network. Glenn's Beliefs & Values

If you're considering attending one of Glenn's seminars, buying one of his training programs, or joining his priority club, you deserve to know what his beliefs and values are.

Glenn is a passionate believer in Servant Leadership and practices this principle in his annual Excellence in Leadership award, his Jobs Board, and his Pay It Forward Birthday celebrations.

He and his wife have also made it publicly known that they are leaving their entire estate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

One of their neighbors is Ronnie Dunn of Brooks and Dunn, and Glenn often quotes this verse from one of their songs:

“Only in America, where we dream as big as we want to.
We all get a chance, everybody gets to dance,
Only in America.”

Glenn loves that song because he was an Eagle Scout, and believes America is the land of opportunity. But he also believes our declining work ethic, increasing entitlement mentality, and obsession with victimhood threaten to change that.

This is why he believes in acknowledging and rewarding achievement, but is opposed to rewarding people for mere participation. When you attend his seminar, you'll likely hear him say things like

"Adults don't get a trophy just for showing up"

or

"Raises are earned, not given".

His favorite book is "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren, and his favorite quote from that book is “It’s not about you”.

He has three big pet peeves:

1. Ungrateful people
2. People who take freely but give nothing
3. People who don't practice what they preach

He is a licensed pilot whose hobbies include flying, skeet shooting, and numismatics. He is also a huge music lover, and an avid car enthusiast whose dream is to visit Jay Leno's garage.

He and his wife Cindy live in Nashville, where they recently bought a historic home they are renovating. It was named "Angel House" because it was built by Hall of Fame songwriter Ben Peters, who wrote eight #1 hits for Charlie Pride, including the biggest of his career, "Kiss an Angel Good Morning". Though it was selected by HGTV for a quick renovation on one of their “Fixer Upper” shows, they opted for a slower traditional route to ensure that the house’s rich history is properly preserved.
